DHS chief cool with ICE firing shots into a car with a kid
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin faced off against reporters Friday following another shooting by Immigration and Customs Enforcement goons, where at least one agent unloaded multiple rounds into a car, injuring 28-year-old Oscar Belgal in New York. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that ICE agents opened fire on Belgal as he sat in his car with his 5-year…
Paxton whines that Cornyn wants him to lose to teach GOP a lesson
Another day, another damaging leak for Texas Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton. In the latest installment of things Paxton told GOP donors at a closed-door fundraiser, Paxton said Sen. John Cornyn—the longtime incumbent whom Paxton defeated in a primary runoff in May—wants Paxton to lose and thus is not helping his campaign. In the audio, leaked to CNN by a donor who doesn’t support…
Abdul El-Sayed shreds ‘silly’ gotcha question—and Pete Hegseth
Michigan’s Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed held a press conference ahead of his debate with GOP opponent Mike Rogers Thursday. When one reporter asked why criticisms of his relationship with left-wing influencer Hasan Piker weren’t comparable to scrutiny of his opponent’s relationship with President Donald Trump, El-Sayed pulled no punches. “That’s a serious question?

Even Republicans are appalled by Hegseth’s planned snuff film
In yet more proof that even broken clocks are right twice a day, a number of GOP lawmakers, operatives, and pundits have come out against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s decision to livestream the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan. The general consensus—even among Republicans—is that broadcasting a firing squad execution isn’t just morally wrong, but it also plays into the hands of…
Daily Kos targeted by Iranian propaganda effort
This is the stuff of nightmares. As reported by NPR and The Washington Post, a foreign influence operation used artificial intelligence to generate propaganda and publish it across American media platforms, including right here at Daily Kos. The result from the made-up persona was three stories/diaries published in the community. The operation evaded our existing automated safeguards…
Democrats obliterate GOP rivals in Senate debates
In multiple debates that aired on Thursday night, Democratic Senate candidates criticized and outright shamed their Republican rivals for their personal behavior and ongoing support of President Donald Trump’s unpopular agenda. These exchanges happened in key races that will determine the makeup of the Senate after the midterm election, and could help lead to a Democratic majority empowered…
‘Polls aren’t looking good’: GOP panics as blue tsunami builds
The midterms are looking uglier for Republicans each day, with states and districts that President Donald Trump won in a landslide in 2024 now showing Democrats in the lead with just 24 days until Election Day. Polls from a range of geographic regions show across-the-board frustration and anger toward Trump over his war in Iran, which has destroyed the economy. “Polls aren’t looking good…

Trump voters happily ‘tune out’ midterms after wrecking the country
The New York Times visited Republican country in Western Michigan, where it found a bucketload of disaffected conservatives. It’s part of what political prognosticator Charlie Cook has dubbed “the red undertow,” the notion that voters aren’t voting for Democrats this year but rather are punishing Republicans—either by voting against them or by merely tuning out and skipping the election.
Failed executions troubled other states before Christa Pike. Here’s what happened.
Tennessee’s bungled attempt to execute Christa Pike was not the first time a state has failed to carry out a lethal injection over problems in the death chamber. Pike, 50, has regained consciousness and is speaking a week after Tennessee gave her two lethal doses of pentobarbital. Outgoing Republican Gov. Bill Lee has ordered a review into what went wrong, and the state has not said…

The far-left is eating its own. Just ask Mamdani.
How far gone do you have to be to think that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is “genocidal”? Apparently, this far gone: And this far gone: Think about how utterly insane this is. Mamdani is a Muslim Democratic socialist who has spent his political career advocating for Palestinian rights. And he was elected mayor of the country’s largest city while openly…

Katie Padilla Stout fights for Uvalde families in this Texas district
Better Know a Democrat is an interview series to give voters a closer look at candidates in competitive races across the U.S. All eyes are on a potentially purpling Texas. Yes, Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico seems to be in every other headline while he and Republican Ken Paxton scrap it out. But you’ll find another competitive race in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District…
Lil’ Marco gets big mad at questions about Greek ambassador scandal
Secretary of State Marco Rubio berated reporters on Thursday as he avoided answering questions about a scandal enveloping the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, former Fox News host (and Donald Trump Jr.’s ex-fiancée) Kimberly Guilfoyle. A Wall Street Journal report revealed apparent text messages between Guilfoyle and Trump donor Eric Deters while the Senate was debating her confirmation last year.
Hegseth thinks a firing squad execution is entertainment
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth spoke with antisemitic right-wing conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln on Thursday. The podcaster asked him about this week’s announcement that President Donald Trump has approved the execution by firing squad of Nidal Hasan, a former U.S. Army major and Medical Corps psychiatrist found guilty of killing 13 people in a…
Trump’s latest Nobel Peace Prize rant shows how far gone he is
It’s true that we’re all sick of President Donald Trump. Also true: We can’t ignore him. He is the president of the United States, and he’s causing our nation and the world grave damage. We shouldn’t be looking away. He’s also the best surrogate for Democrats this November. While our party isn’t lighting it up with public support, gaining power will be the first step toward showing the…
Americans are sick of food making them sick
The Trump administration’s mission to Make America Healthy Again took a literally shitty turn, with a nationwide outbreak of diarrhea-causing cyclospora this summer—and new data shows the public is noticing the government’s mismanagement. A Gallup survey released on Thursday finds the public’s confidence in the government’s role in food safety at a new low. Just 47% of Americans have “a great…
